First Time Home Buyers


The Minnesota Housing Finance Agency (MHFA) has a below market rate mortgage loans for first-time home buyers, or those who have not owned a home in the past three years. Anoka residents may access this program if they have acceptable credit and meet the income requirements and home purchase price limits. For further information call 763-323-5764.
Anoka County Community Action Program (ACCAP) offers the following programs for first time home buyers:

Home Buyer Education & Counseling
Home Buyer Education and Counseling helps low to moderate-income individuals and/or first time home buyers with step-by-step instruction to financial readiness and credit worthiness needed for mortgage loan approval. This begins with a series of Home Stretch Workshops that include handouts, a study guide, and expert advice from guest speakers. Participants are encouraged to meet with staff for one-to-one financial counseling, help with credit issues, budgeting plans and loan program information.

Workshops
All workshops are held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Anoka County Human Service Building located at 1201 - 89th Avenue, Suite 300 in Blaine. Fees are $49 per household. Pre-registration is required. To register, please call 763-783-4747.
Minnesota Housing Finance Agency (MHFA) Fix-Up Fund Loan Program
A below market interest rate loan of up to $50,000 is available through the MHFA for owner-occupied single-family homes, duplexes, triplexes, or four-plexes. Applicants must have an adjusted gross household income of $96,500 or less and be a year round owner/occupant of the property. Eligible improvements include most interior and exterior projects except luxury items. Call the Anoka Housing Hotline at 612-335-5884 for current rates.

Anoka County Community Action Program (ACCAP)
- Reverse Mortgage Program: A loan program for seniors 62 years of age and older with equity in their home looking for options to increase their income, meet unexpected expenses or prevent foreclosure. Reverse Mortgage counseling is required.
- Foreclosure Prevention Assistance: Homeowners receive counseling, help with mortgage company negotiations, information on the foreclosure process, and possible assistance in the form of a loan.
